Scientific research and technological innovation are increasingly looking like key factors in the economic development of Wallonia. The importance of research, the ever-increasing development of science and technology and their impact on the economy and society require the development of a comprehensive series of actions to promote research and popularise science, in addition to the research activities themselves. This is why SPW Recherche has deemed it necessary to add these activities to its research-funding programmes.
- The aim of the promotional activities is to highlight the skills, expertise and potential of research stakeholders in Wallonia and to disseminate any useful information pertaining to research, technological development and innovation to them.
- The activities intended to popularise science aim to disseminate easy-to-understand and high-quality information about every field of scientific and technical knowledge. These are intended to be accessible to everyone. They also aim to entice young people to study science and technology and pursue careers in these fields.
For SPW Recherche, promoting research and raising awareness around sciences and technology, as well as associated professions, can be done in a variety of ways.
The most traditional involves offering financial support for projects introduced by outside promoters (exhibitions, conferences, science events, educational tools, etc.), in accordance with the awarding methods outlined in the Decree of 3 July 2008.
